Topic III - Act 14 航空和铁路 Plane & Railway
In 2007, the Chinese railway authority ordered an increase in train speed for all major routes. This has been the sixth times the authority raised the train speed in recent years. As a result, some of the new trains can reach a top speed of 240 km per hour, especially for those "D" trains that enable people to travel between big cities in just a few hours. Also, shortly before the 29th Beijing Olympic Games, a special hi-speed train between Tianjin and Beijing went into operation that only takes 30 minutes to commute between these two cities. Similar hi-speed railway between Beijing and Shanghai is also under construction. When it is completed, traveling between the two cities will take only about 5 hours.
