Enjoying Food - The Mid-Autumn Festival
The dates of the traditional Chinese festivals are determined by the lunar calendar. Some of the most important festivals include the Spring Festival, the Lantern Festival, the Qing Ming Festival, the Dragen Boat Festival and the Mid-autumn Festival. There will be some special activities or some special food at every festival. On the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, the moon becomes full and it’s the Mid-Autumn Day. A full moon, to the Chinese, means a time for family reunion. Therefore, this day is a holiday for members of a family to get together. On that day, sons and daughters will rerturn home with their family. Sometimes, those who have already settled overseas will also come back to visit parents during the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is a tradition for Chinese people to eat moon cakes during Mid-Autumn Festival. Moon cakes are a kind of pastry with sweet fillings such as sesame, walnut, preserved egg yoke, ham or other ingredients.
